Located in downtown Fort Lauderdale only a short drive from our Hollywood Beach resort, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts brings music, performance and spectacle to South Florida in its finest form. Unlike the BankAtlantic Center or Hard Rock Live however, the Broward Center is dedicated primarily to opera, ballet, plays and Broadway, and with such an incredible roster of shows to choose from, you can be sure there's always something going on at the BCPA.
When it opened in 1991, the Broward Center quickly became one of the top attractions in South Florida, sparking a revival of the arts and giving birth to the celebrated Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District, home of the Museum of Art, the Florida Grand Opera, the Concert Association of Florida and the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society. An impressive structure in its own right, the Center is a massive 5.5-acre complex which hosts four independent performance theatres.
In the keystone space, the Au-Rene Theatre, you'll see first-rate international productions. Past shows include Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Wicked and musical great Tony Bennett. In the side theatres you'll see programs as diverse as children's theatre, improv comedy shows, ballet, community theatre productions, film showings, dinner theatre and lectures.
The BCPA is partnered with several acclaimed musical and theatre companies including the Symphony of the Americas, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and Gold Coast Jazz, so you can be sure it is always top-notch talent on display. You can also be sure that there's always something going on. Across the four theatres, over 600 shows are put on annually, making this Fort Lauderdale performing arts center one of the busiest and most-attended events venues in the country.
